A tractor-trailer driver suffered “minor injuries” after a rollover crash closed a section of Interstate 91 northbound in Wallingford on Tuesday morning.
Dominique Phil Jenkins was driving in a tractor trailer northbound on I-91 near Exit 15 around 4:30 a.m. when police said he lost control of the vehicle.
Police said Jenkins drove over a wired rope guard rail before hitting a Department of Transportation sign. The impact caused the trailer to be “breached” and lose its cargo onto the highway.
After the crash, police said the tractor-trailer caught on fire and “became engulfed” in flames.
A driver passing bye was able to help Jenkins out of the vehicle.
Police said Jenkins was issued an infraction for failure to maintain established lane.
Jenkins was rushed to Yale-New Haven Hospital, police said.
The tractor-trailer was towed from the scene.
