A 49-year-old man was arrested after police said he was naked on a beach in West Haven on Tuesday afternoon.
Police were called to a report of a naked man at Sea Bluff Beach, which is adjacent to the Charlotte Bacon Playground, around 4:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police located Ansonia resident David Gerrish in his motor vehicle in the beach parking lot facing the playground built for a Sandy Hook shooting victim.
He attracted the attention of people passing by because he was wearing see-through swim shorts, and then took them off, fully exposing himself.
Phillip Erff was with his granddaughter at the park on Monday and said "This park was so packed yesterday with the kids, I don't know how he got away with it."
He didn't get away with it for long. Police responded and found Gerrish in his car clothed, but admitted to his behavior, telling police he "changed to swim shorts on the beach and was naked for a short period of time."
Gerrish was charged with public indecency and breach of peace. He appeared in court on Tuesday.
Gerrish has no criminal background and according to a police report he is married and self-employed.
He is expected to appear in court again in two weeks.
