HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A Hartford firefighter has been placed on administrative leave after being accused of child abuse.

Police said 34-year-old Aarvah Quinonez, of Hartford, was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation stemming from an incident in February.

Police said on Feb. 4, they responded to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center at the request of the Department of Children and Families. Investigators said a 10-year-old child was at the hospital who had allegedly been assaulted by their mother.

An investigation began, and an arrest warrant was obtained for Quinonez.

Police said the alleged incident involves multiple incidents of assaults, striking with a belt, choking, and other serious allegations in 2015 and 2016.

Quinonez has been a member of the Hartford Fire Department since June 27, 2011.

She was placed on administrative leave with pay pending further information becoming available.

Quinonez was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree strangulation, and risk of injury to a minor.

She was placed on a $150,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
