Chelsea Clinton was in Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon to campaign for her mother and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Chelsea Clinton campaigned for Hillary Clinton at the Dunns River, a Jamaican restaurant, in Hartford.

Her daughter's visit to Connecticut comes after Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary in New York. A Quinnipiac University poll shows Hillary Clinton leading among likely Connecticut primary voters.

"This election feels very personal to me because I know whomever we elect will play such a profound role in shaping the country and the world that my children and future generations will grow up in," Clinton said on Wednesday.

According to the Quinnipiac Poll survey, 823 likely Republican primary voters show Donald Trump with a big lead at 48 percent. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is in second with 28 percent, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz is third with 19 percent.

As for the Democrats, Hillary Clinton has a 9-point lead over Bernie Sanders. More than 1,000 likely Democratic primary voters picked Clinton, 51 to 42 percent.

Also noted in the poll, wide gender and racial gaps among likely Democratic primary voters. Women back Clinton 55 to 38 percent, while black voters back Clinton 66 to 25 percent.

The Clinton campaign hopes the numbers are right and hold for another week.

"I'm so convinced my mother is the only person qualified to lead us at this moment in time," Chelsea Clinton said.

The 36-year-old mom, with another one on the way, talked about how her mom is the best candidate to tackle the epidemic of gun violence in communities across America. The former secretary of state has been vocal about background checks and holding irresponsible gun dealers and manufacturers accountable.

"I didn't know I could care any more about gun control until I became a mom and gun control is one of those issues that does feel more deeply personal. I couldn't imagine what the Sandy Hook families confront every day," Clinton said.

Chelsea Clinton was joined by state leaders and lawmakers ahead of the primary in Connecticut on Tuesday.

She also highlighted a key reason why her mom should be the democratic nominee over Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

"When he has called women's issues a distraction...unfortunately, not only is that not true's particularly not true this year," Clinton said.

Connecticut is a hot spot right now for candidates to visit. Donald Trump was in Hartford last Friday.

Hillary Clinton will be in Hartford on Thursday, and John Kasich will be in the state on Friday.

Sanders is rumored to be holding a rally over the weekend in Connecticut.
