The layoffs continue across the state of Connecticut as officials try to balance a budget.
On Thursday, officials said 166 employees within the Department of Corrections received layoff notices.
The reductions within the department fall in the area of support services, however 40 layoffs are new correction officers.
As of Thursday, officials said 518 layoff notifications within the executive branch have been sent out.
To reduce the budget, the governor said he is proposing cuts to the state workforce by 2,500. Gov. Dannel Malloy said the 2,500 number is not strictly layoffs with the rest will be made up of retirements and an unfilled positions.
