Three young actresses are on stage this week at The Bushnell in Hartford as Matilda The Musical sings and dances into town.
Lily Brooks O’Briant is only 9 years old and already she is one of three young stars in the performance.
"I like that you can pretend to be someone else instead of just being yourself. You can pretend to be another person,” she said on Wednesday.
Matilda is the story of a girl dreaming of a better life who sings, dances and changes her destiny.
The show is about to mark one year on tour, with a stop in Hartford, running through Sunday at The Bushnell.
The big star of the show is a little girl, so three different “Matildas” rotate nights and take turns on stage.
"We have eight shows, so, it's my 'golden week' this week and that means, I do two shows and the other Matilda's have three shows each. You get a 'golden week' after you do an opening night and then you kind of get time to chillax,” said Savannah Grace Elmer.
The girls go to school during the day and keep a rigorous rehearsal schedule, perfecting the show that is non-stop fun, right up until the final curtain call.
"There are moments in this show, and I won't tell you what they are, I thought I've never seen anything like that on stage – ever,” said Quinn Mattfeld, of Matilda The Musical.
On Wednesday, tickets to the show were still available. For more information, click here.
