A Vernon man is facing charges after police said he fired a gun inside an apartment early Sunday morning.
Police arrested 22-year-old Shawn Cummins on Sunday.
At about 2 a.m., police said Cummins went to a neighbor’s apartment at the Portico 1 Villa Apartments on Vernon Avenue to hang out. Police said he was reportedly highly intoxicated.
According to police, Cummins got upset because a person wouldn’t get out of the bathroom inside an apartment.
Police said he fired his 9mm handgun into the closed bathroom door, just missing the person inside.
Cummins was told to leave the apartment, and while he was standing outside of the unit, he reportedly fired his gun into the outside wall of the apartment complex.
No injuries were reported.
Police said Cummins has a pistol permit and his gun was registered. Police seized that weapon for evidence. They also found a .45 caliber handgun and a 12 gauge shotgun inside his apartment.
Cummins was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm, illegally carrying a firearm while intoxicated, first-degree reckless endangerment, threatening, and disorderly conduct.
He was held on a $20,000 bond and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
