On Tuesday, Eyewitness News took the 20 Towns in Twenty Days tour to Groton.
Channel 3 donated $1,000 to Work Vessels for Vets, and PC Richard and Son donated a $500 gift card.
In 2008, the Groton based organization was founded by a man who donated his fishing boat to a veteran returning, who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Eight years later, they collect boats, cars, farming equipment and so much more, all donated to more than 1,500 veterans who start a business or learn a new trade.
"Many of these people that start their own business, these vets hire other vets so the pay-it-forward aspect of this is…it really has snowballed, you're impacting tens of thousands of vets when you add it all up,” said John Niekrash, of Work Vessels for Vets.
"Most guys would never think they'd have a chance to do something like that but these guys make it happen, it's just a great organization,” said Mike Ennis, who is a retired Marine.
