Police in Plainfield said an active U.S. Air Force member sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in town.

Police said 26-year-old Nicholas B. Murphy of Exeter, RI met the girl through social media.

They began investigating the case after the teen was reported missing on Sept. 17, 2015.

Investigators learned that the girl was with Murphy and that the two engaged in sexual relations.

According to court documents, the two met up when he was on leave from the Air Force, and police said "She admitted to meeting with Murphy and having unprotected sex with him. The victim said that it was not the first time they met and not the first time they had sex. She said that it occurred in his truck at the Moosup ball park."

Murphy allegedly told police the two had sexual relations once.

"Murphy said that she told him she was 16 years old, was home schooled, and she lived in Moosup near a ball field. Murphy said no force was used and it was consensual sex between the two of them," court documents said.

Murphy was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of illegal sexual contact.

Police said he turned himself into them.

Murphy was stationed at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi. He's a member of the 14 Security Forces Squadron. He’s an E-5 Staff sergeant and his duties are that of a patrolman.

Murphy started August 2008 and is still currently active, according to Air Force officials.

Murphy was held on a $50,000 cash or surety bond and scheduled to face a judge on Monday in Danielson.
