Bristol residents say thieves are taking bicycles right from the front of their homes, even brazen enough to cut the locks.

“There were two bikes that were stolen off the porch, one was mine and another was the downstairs neighbor's," said Tiannia Smith.

She said her Schwinn mountain bike was stolen right from the family’s front porch, and it was locked up.

“It's a little ridiculous we can't have our bikes on his front porches anymore because someone is stealing them all," Smith said.

The family filed a police report and two days later they were lucky enough to get their bike back.

However, Greg Gibbon’s niece and nephew weren’t luck enough.

“About three mountain bikes and a moped missing,” Gibbons said.

The bikes cost upwards of $100 each, and the moped about $400. He said they weren’t locked up but were in a backyard.

“It definitely needs to be taken care of. I'm guessing it’s a group of teenagers who thinks it's funny,” Gibbons said.

Police said the thefts are happening in a few neighborhoods, including Federal Hill, near the downtown area, and in some condo complexes.

Two bicycles were reported stolen in just one week, but there are many who haven’t called police.

Residents said they just hope the thieves are caught.

“I hope they don't do it any more...quite honestly; and I did reckless things but I was punished for it so hopefully they get reprimanded by their parents,” said Christopher Smith, of Bristol

If you’ve had a bike stolen, police say they need to know about it.
