NAUGATUCK, CT (WFSB) -

A suspicious man in Naugatuck has sent parents in a panic, and cracking the case is a top priority for police.

Naugatuck dad Robert Florentino said his daughter was part of the group of children at a bus stop on Monday morning when the man approached them, offering a ride to school.

“She's frightened, she doesn't really want to talk about it, just really upset. Something scary for an 11-year-old to feel, but we spoke to her,” Florentino said.

His daughter was waiting for the bus on the corner of Spring and Diamond streets when a man in a red car pulled up.

"He went like this to them, asked them to come to the car, opened up his door, asked them to get in the car to take them on a ride to school. That's when she screamed no, backed up,” Florentino said.

Naugatuck police are looking for the car that sped off.

On Saturday, police said they believe the same driver approached two girls near Spring and Bridge streets.

All of the children who were approached are between the ages of 10 and 14.

"That's scary to even think of about that there is somebody out there trying to kidnap kids,” Florentino said.

While there was no physical attempt to grab the children, Naugatuck police said they’re devoting plenty of resources while trying to identify the driver, including swarming the area with police officers.

"We're doing it both with marked and unmarked units. As I said, this is a very active investigation for us, detectives are following up on several leads at this point and we're hoping to get something significant to come our way,” said Naugatuck Police Lt. Bryan Cammarata.

Police said the driver is described as a white man between the ages of 40 and 50, unshaven, with a balding hairline and a pony tail.

"She's frightened, she doesn't really want to talk about it, just really upset. Something scary for an 11 year old to feel, but we spoke to her,” Florentino said.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Naugatuck Police Department at 203-729-5221 or the of their tip line at 203-720-1010.
