WESTPORT, CT (WFSB) -

A 83-year-old man died after police said he was involved in a crash in Westport on Friday morning.

A three-vehicle crash was reported on Post Road East near the intersection of Crescent Road around 10 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found that Westport resident Harry Engel was "seriously injured" in the crash. Police said Engel was rushed to Norwalk Hospital where he died a short time later.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said preliminary results show a vehicle traveling westbound "crossed into the eastbound lane" and collided head-on with two other vehicles.

Police said the drivers of the eastbound vehicles did not report any injuries. Police added those two drivers stayed at the scene.

Post Road East was closed from Compo Road to Hillspoint Road until 1:15 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation by the Westport Police Department Accident Investigation Unit. No charges have been filed by the Westport Police Department.
