A 5-star boutique hotel, with only 8 rooms is about to open up on the shoreline in Mystic.
The Old Spicer Mansion has been transformed into a high-end destination hotel. Eyewitness News got an exclusive sneak peak of the facility.
The Spicer Mansion was the 1853 home of shipping magnate Elijhu Spicer. Now, it has been painstakingly restored into an eight-room boutique hotel.
Innkeeper Louis Shapazian said the best feature is the widows walk, they call the belvedere where guests could sit or dine.
Shapazian said during their meal, guests can enjoy "beautiful view of Mystic as well as the Seaport and just the surrounding area."
Each of the eight rooms were named and restored with a parquet floor to artistically refreshed ceilings.
"We have an iPad program that will be in the rooms as well as state of the art televisions, telephone systems,” Shapazian said.
Ocean House Management of Westerly manages the property for the Gates family, who bought it several years ago to create an old world "experience" for worldly travelers, who enjoy the finer things in life.
Candice Traskos of Ocean House called the experience “white gloved, individualized” and “tailored to each specific guests.”
“Really high-level service that you don't get in Mystic currently,” Traskos said.
The Spicer Mansion has its own restaurant for guests who will dine on six-course meals and fine wines. Rooms start at $400 per night and guests can tack on another $150 for dinner.
"The reason for having it as an exclusive space is really to give the guests the feeling that there in someone's private residence,” Traskos said.
One carpenter on this project described the project as massive.
"It's old, it's unique it's a challenge,” Edward McKernan, who is working on the hotel, said. “A lot of fun, making old into new, new into old."
Contractors such as McKernan are pushing to put the final touches on this grand property which comes with its own luxury car.
The official grand opening won't be until the end of the month, on May 28. But, there is a soft opening this weekend.
