With summer right around the corner, the Elm City said it is going to be the place to be.
New Haven officials said there are 28 events spread out over 63 days this summer.
"We have so many organizations in New Haven providing festivals, sporting events, the road race, the CT open, now have a bicycle road race, as well as a world class acts on our New Haven green,” said New Haven Mayor Toni Harp.
In addition to the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, and the Jazz Fest, New Haven is also bringing back free concerts to the green, including a Night of Opera, and stars Debbie Gibson and En Vogue.
There will also be events like a giant water slide set up on a city street and dragon boat race by Long Wharf.
"I think we have more events and a more diverse lineup of events than I've seen in the city in 20 years,” said Anne Worcester of Market New Haven.
New Haven's big summer series kickoff comes just one day after the personal finance website Wallet Hub - listed the Elm City as one of the worst summer get away destinations...citing travel hassles and few activities, something the Mayor says is just simply not true.
“I believe the people that do these surveys want to promote certain cities, never been to New Haven, you always have to look at the survey and the questions asked,” Harp said.
