HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

As a result of the City of Hartford's budget crisis, it may be the last chapter for three public library locations.

That's if proposed budget cuts are approved.

Of the nearly $1 million in cuts, the branches on Campfield Avenue, Blue Hills Avenue and the one inside Hartford Public High School were said to be on the block.

Mayor Luke Bronin said the city faces a budget deficit of $15 million.

A total of nearly $1 million in library funding cuts and 25 layoffs have been proposed.

Library officials said 10 positions have already been shed. If the budget is approved, they anticipate having to lose the additional 10 to 15 more.

"It's difficult choices especially dealing with service that the public ...needs and especially now," said Hartford Library CEO Bridget Quinn-Carey.

Bronin can veto any changes to the budget proposal, according to city officials. He has until the end of Friday.

If the cuts go through, the branches could close by July 1.

Dawn Hribko said she uses the library every day.

"We use the computers to job search, they help me with a resume and I was able to send my resume out, and get hired so we do need this place," Hribko said, adding that she hopes cuts don't happen at the library. "They shouldn't shut down any place that deals with children, they are our future."

Hartford's budget has been controversial on more than one front.

School officials were looking at 235 full time job cuts, a prospect at which parents and students sounded off about during a public hearing earlier this month.
