A family in New Britain said they're elated Wednesday morning after their missing therapy dog was found safe.
Members of the community as well as rescue organizations were helping the family find the dog, named Jackie, on Tuesday.
Jackie helps 11-year-old Julyssa Garcia, who battles several ailments including epilepsy.
Jackie is a 9-year-old white Chihuahua mix is not a trained therapy dog, but the family said they consider him an emotional therapy dog.
“She has a seizure disorder and PTSD [after] she was exposed to trauma as a child,” said Liz Gonzalez, Julyssa’s mother. “He gives her a sense of security and she really needs him,”
Gonzalez told Eyewitness News that Jackie was found safe Tuesday night shortly after their story was aired.
The family said the dog provides Julyssa with comfort.
“He does calm her down and her seizures are triggered by anxiety,” Gonzalez said.
The family thanked everyone who helped bring Jackie home.
