STERLING, CT (WFSB) -

Emergency crews responded to reports of several unplanned explosions that occurred on the manufacturing line at Maxam Initiating Systems on Dixon Rd at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The manufacturer makes explosives and initiating systems for blasting operations.

State Police said Maxam Initiating Systems was immediately evacuated and one person who suffered minor injuries was taken to Day Kimball Hospital.

Officials said there was a small fire, but it is unclear if that sparked the explosion or was a result of it. Following investigations, state police said the building and manufacturing line were determined to be safe without further incident.

The State Fire Marshal was called in to assist with the investigation.
