A man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl who'd been taking lessons at stables in Killingly.

Police said Michael Sobieniak, 41, of Brooklyn, was arrested after police launched an investigation at the Valley View Riding Stables on Lake Road in Killingly.

The investigation began after a complaint was filed on Oct. 22, 2015; however, the victim told troopers the sex assaults happened years ago.

The victim, now 22, reported she started taking lessons at the Valley View Riding Stables at age 13.

During the time she worked for Sobieniak to pay for her riding time.

She told troopers that a relationship with the suspect became sexual. From the age of 13 to 15, the victim said she had sex with Sobieniak.

Detectives said they conducted a lengthy criminal investigation and received a warrant to arrest Sobieniak.

He was charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault, three counts of illegal sexual contact with a child and risk of injury.

Sobieniak turned himself in to state police on Thursday and held on a court-set bond of $100,000.

He was also arraigned on Thursday in Danielson Superior Court.
