PD: Man caught at Mexican border after attempted sexual assault in New Britain

NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

A man accused of an attempted sexual assault and home invasion in New Britain was arrested trying to Mexican border.  

Augustine Garcia Hernandez was arrested after police said “forced his way into the female victim’s home and attempted to sexually assault her” in July 2011.

Police said Hernandez and the victim “had a domestic relationship.” The woman was able to fight off Hernandez, but police said he fled before officers arrived on the scene.

The woman’s two children were inside the home during the attempted sexual assault.

After fleeing Connecticut, Hernandez was caught by US Marshals near the Mexican border. He was turned over Connect investigators and returned to New Britain on Wednesday.
