BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

A special day for one Bristol couple has turned into a tragic nightmare.

Brittain Gagnon and Alex Gardner were supposed to walk down the aisle Friday, but now doctors are unsure if Gardner will ever walk again.

Channel 3's Erin Connolly spoke with the bride about what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.

"This is my wedding day and we spent thousands on everything to make it perfect," said Gagnon.

The wedding was supposed to take place at Lighthouse Point Park.

Now, Gardner is recovering from multiple surgeries after his legs were crushed in a terrifying accident at work just a few days ago.

"I couldn't wait to see our pictures...it's on the beach so what's better than a sunset on the beach...that'll be the hardest part," said Gagnon.

Despite the tragic accident, doctors said he is lucky to be alive.

"We've never spent a night alone, even in the hospital. I stayed in a recliner chair every single night," said Gagnon.

Gardner has a long road ahead of him and will now have to learn how to walk again.

But Gagnon said there's a silver lining.

"This situation definitely tested out love...I mean I've never left his side. I hope that that proves everything to him," said Gagnon.

Although this is a difficult chapter in their love story, thanks to doctors there are many more pages to be written.
