MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

One Meriden police officer went out of his way to help a woman in need this weekend.

Officer John-Paul Dorais located a homeless woman sleeping in a shed on Broad Street on Saturday.

Dorais used her own money and purchased a room for the woman. The officer bought her a room at the Comfort Inn & Suites, which is located at 900 East Main St., to “get comfortable night's sleep.”

His partner quickly snapped a photo of the actions of Dorais while he was not looking.

“Officer Dorais's act of kindness exemplifies what the men and women of the Meriden Police Department stand for, and we are proud of him and all our officers who do these kinds of deeds that are seldom recognized. Great job, Officer Dorais," the Meriden Police Department posted on its Facebook page.
