Two people have died, and two others were hospitalized after a kayak and paddleboard excursion in Long Island Sound on Sunday.
Three victims were found on a beach in the Suffolk County Long Island town of Southold, NY.
The two survivors, two women, were being treated for hypothermia and are in stable condition. One person who died a 31-year-old man.
Crews were searching for the fourth person on Monday, and on Monday afternoon officials said that person's body was found in Long Island Sound near Suffolk County Long Island.
The group set off from Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison a little after 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
Crews were searching an area of roughly 8 miles on Monday for the fourth person, who has only been identified as a 44-year-old man from Manchester.
"Exhaustion, hypothermia exposure is just pretty tough, all night long in the water like this," said Capt. Ryan Healy, EnCon police.
The women's cries alerted a nearby resident.
EnCon police are helping the Southold Police Department in the investigation.
"It's terrible, it was a brutal day down here [Sunday]," said Peter Hlousek of Clinton. "I live about a mile from here and the wind was horrendous."
