STRATFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Two people were rescued on Tuesday morning after getting stranded in the Long Island Sound.

A boater, who is being called a Good Samaritan, found a dingy/raft with a stranded boater in it around 9:30 a.m.

The Coast Guard said when the boater connected with the man, they learned that his friend had jumped from the boat on Monday around 2 p.m. and attempted to swim to Charles Island

A short time later, the Milford Police Department got reports that a person had walked onto the shore. The Coast Guard learned that this man on the shore was the second person in the dingy.

According to the Coast Guard, the unidentified man made it to Charles Island on Monday and spent the night on the island.

When tide went low on Tuesday, the Coast Guard said he walked across the sandbar to the shoreline.

The two men were rushed to a local hospital for evaluation. One was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital while the other went to Milford Hospital.

The Coast Guard said both were suffering from dehydration and hypothermia.

The pair set off from Silver Sands Beach in Milford on Monday.

The Stratford Fire Department assisted with the search and rescue.
