A family in Portland that fell on hard times received a boost from the Liberty Bank and Channel 3 SurPRIZE Squad this week.

It's a mission the squad had been planning for months.

It was tipped off about the family, which was in the process of building a new future after facing financial hardship over the past few years.

"To be able to be a part of seeing this family move from one place in their life to the next, it's an unbelievable blessing," said Sarah Bird, Middlesex Habitat for Humanity.

For the first time, Denise, Todd and their son Zack will have a place to call home, largely thanks to the Middlesex Habitat for Humanity.

"We've gotten to know the family a little bit through this process as well," said Toral Maher, Liberty Bank Foundation.

Employees from Liberty Bank have been lending a helping hand from the very beginning.

"You can see a sea of red shirts," Maher said. "We have volunteers from Liberty Bank here every day finishing off the landscaping so the house will be beautiful for the family to move in."

Then, the Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad got involved.

It delivered some more happy news.

"To have you guys here, it's just icing on the cake," Bird said. "It's sprinkles, it's everything."

The squad showed Zack some of the fun items it had for him.

The surprises involved a fire pit for his family, a baseball, s'more materials, bubbles, ice pops, sidewalk chalk and a sidewalk in front of the home.

The squad also gave the family a pass to Lake Compounce in Bristol.

Perhaps the biggest gift was the filling of their propane tanks. The family said it was an expense they struggled with last winter.
