WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A West Hartford man is facing charges after police said he made anti-gay slurs against a Home Depot cashier.

Mario Interlandi, 71, had asked the employee why he was wearing gloves while working as a register attendant, and the conversation evolved into a "harassing discussion about the employee's sexuality."

Police said Interlandi also referenced the Orlando shooting during the confrontation at the store on New Park Avenue.

Interlandi was arrested and charged with breach of peace, intimidation based on bigotry or bias.

He was also issued a criminal trespass warning for the Home Depot.
