Police look to interview woman who alerted Meriden mall employee to 'shooting'

MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Meriden said they're looking for a woman who alerted a mall employee to what was thought to be a shooting on Thursday night.

Police said they responded to the Westfield Meriden Mall just before 8:30 p.m. 

They said the incident originated when a female told a store employee that someone was shooting. Police said they're looking to identify the woman so they can interview her.

Dispatchers received a 911 call that someone may be shooting inside the mall on Lewis Avenue.

Police said when the arrived, they found no evidence of an active shooter situation.

Still, they entered the mall and evacuated both employees and patrons.

They said a systematic search was conducted and confirmed no evidence of a shooting.

During the search, officers said people who were sheltering in place were escorted out of the building.

Police said they received help from both state police and the Berlin Police Department.
