Police identify construction worker killed while working on sewer project in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Police have identified the construction worker who died while working at a sewer project in New Haven on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said 57-year-old Donald "Cary" Smith was hit by a backhoe and landed in the back of a dump truck filled with asphalt around noon. After landing in the ump truck, authorities said Smith was buried in asphalt.

Smith was working for "Pereira and Sons" were working on a West Haven Sewer Project on Boston Post Road right along the West Haven border.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident.
