Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's budget office says 724 positions have been eliminated so far from Connecticut's executive branch of government and more layoffs are expected.
The figure announced Wednesday by the Office of Policy and Management does not include cuts in higher education positions. It does include the jobs eliminated at many other state agencies, from 139 at the Department of Children and Families to one at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Meanwhile, the state's judicial branch said last week it had eliminated 239 permanent full-time employees so far and released 61 temporary employees.
The policy management office says there will be more job cuts to help balance the state budget.
