Hartford and East Hartford police are working together to investigate the deaths of a former Hartford basketball star and a 21-year-old East Hartford man, according to sources.
Sources confirmed to Eyewitness News that the departments may have connected the murders of 22-year-old Daylon Ore and 21-year-old Trevino Archer.
They are trying to piece together if and how the crimes are related.
Police said Ore, a former Hartford Public High School basketball player, was killed last Thursday night in the area of Main and Earle streets in Hartford.
His mother, Janet Martin, said her son was out with friends that night.
"Was hanging with some friends and turned the corner I guess they heard shots...and I got a call that it was my son," Martin said, adding that she doesn't believe her son was the intended target.
Archer was killed the following morning at a home on Plain Drive in East Hartford, investigators said.
A pregnant woman was also shot in East Hartford, but survived, according to police.
Suspects in either case have not been identified.
There have been 10 murders in Hartford this year. The number is down from this time last year, but victims of gun violence say this needs to stop.
"It's not worth it. At all. Taking these innocent people...too many killing, no reason," Martin said.
Eyewitness News will provide updates as they become available.
