BRANFORD, Conn. (WFSB) -

Branford police said Thursday residents should take extra caution following a string of burglaries in the area.

Three burglaries were reported over the past few weeks in the area of Mill Plain Road and Damascus Road.

Police said thieves entered by pushing in or remove improperly installed air conditioners.

They said they were also broken into by removing screens from an open window.

Anita Perito said her good friend is one of the victims, and when that person came homes, the thieves had left an odd calling card.

"They came home and their AC unit was on the ground. They thought it fell out and when they went in the house it took them a few minutes to realize actually something had happened," Perito said.

Police called the incidents "preventable" and said residents should have their screens or air conditioners put in by a qualified serviceman.

Residents were also advised to install a locking device to the windows.

They said there have also been many landscaping tools that have been stolen in the area.

There are currently no suspects in the burglaries.

Police said a man in a light-colored sedan may be responsible for the thefts of landscaping tools.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
