NORTH BRADDOCK, PA (WPXI/CNN) - An eight-year-old Pennsylvania boy is dead, and his mother's fiance is accused of killing him.
Authorities say the suspect admitted to abusing John-Marquis over his messy bedroom.
John-Marquis' uncle, Raymond Stepich, was with his nephew Thursday night when he died after being on life support at Children's Hospital.
The boy's soon-to-be stepfather, Orlando Williams, told police on Monday he got angry with John-Marquis because the child's room was messy and slammed the boy's head against a bedpost.
The uncle says Williams' story doesn't match the severity of his nephew's injuries.
"he had bruises throughout his body, his arms, his chest," Stepich said. "He had scratches on his neck, scar on his head. It wasn't a pretty sight to watch."
Williams, a tier-three sex offender, wasn't allowed to be around kids, yet he was living in a home with John-Marquis and his two siblings.
The mother lost custody of the other two children, who are with their grandmother.
"Someone could have done something before it got to this point," Stepich said. "That boy did not have to die for someone to step in and do something."
Williams is charged with homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
