NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A woman attacked by two dogs in New Haven last week has died.

Jocelyn Winfrey was attacked by a friend’s dogs last week at a home on Ella Grasso Boulevard.

She lost her eyesight and a leg, and on Monday she succumbed to her injuries, according to city Alderman Brian Wingate.

Last Monday, the dogs' owner, Hamilton Hicks, had come home with a female friend, identified as Winfrey. When the two walked onto the property the pit bulls immediately began to attack the woman.

The man tried to pull the dogs off of her, but he was also bitten repeatedly.

Neighbors were reportedly throwing rocks at the dogs to get them to stop.

The city confirmed that the two pit bulls were properly registered, vaccinated and never had any prior complaints.

The dogs are at a New Haven animal shelter where they will be quarantined for at least two weeks.

Their fate beyond that lies partly in the hands of the police investigation.

Hamilton Hicks, was given a summons for possession of crack on the day of the attack.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses and can be found here.
