NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -

Police led a lengthy investigation after a woman report an assault near a condo complex in Norwalk on Friday morning.

Upon examining the evidence presented by the victim, police determined the search was moot, and said that the complainant had fabricated the story.

The incident was reported near Highland Avenue around 11 a.m. behind a Rowayton Woods Condo Complex.

The suspect was described as a man in his 50's, who is red faced  and heavy set with white short spikey hair. Police said he was wearing a yellow shirt, jean shorts and white sneakers.

The assault caused Metro-North to temporarily delay train service, but service was restored a short time later.

No information as to whether the victim will face charges for filing a false report.
