NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

Connecticut State Police are warning drivers using Interstate 84 in the New Britain area after a bear was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday.

Police said the bear was sometime between the overnight hours or early Tuesday morning on the eastbound side of I-84.

"As if you don't have enough to worry about while you're operating a vehicle, not only do you have to worry about deer jumping out at you but a bear also," Connecticut State Police Trooper Kelly Grant said.

Troopers along with members of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection took bear from the area.

“Not only can a deer or bear strike damage your vehicle or cause an accident, but a deer or bear running out in front of your vehicle can be a scary experience,” state police posted on its Facebook page.

Just last Thursday, another bear was hit and killed by a driver in Bloomfield.

State police advised drivers that hit bears, deer or other wildlife to call nearby police to get help.

“Often times hitting a deer or bear can't be avoided. If you hit a deer or bear and have damage to your vehicle or your vehicle becomes disabled contact the police for assistance,” state police said.

Police also advised not going near the bear to see if it is dead.
