BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Bristol are investigating after a woman was shot early Monday morning.

According to officers, they responded to the area of 262 to 264 Davis Dr. just before 12:20 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

They said a victim had sustained gunshot wounds and was lying on the ground outside a residential neighborhood.

When police arrived, they said they located a 33-year-old female suffering from several gunshot wounds to her upper torso. The victim was transported to Saint Francis Hospital.

"I heard something but I was shocked by it, so I didn’t really get up right away," said William Canfield, an eyewitness. "I should have."

Canfield said he heard a flurry of gunfire. He spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News.

"We came outside [and] we saw a woman laying over there," he said. "At the time, we didn't know what it was."

He said he and his wife opened their door and saw the aftermath of the crime.

"I saw the guy across the street," Canfield said. "He was screaming, frantically.”

The Canfields weren't the only ones who heard the shots. A mother living nearby told Eyewitness news that she and her son heard several distinct "pops."

"Then, the police came really, really quick," said the mother, who only wished to be identified as Stefany.

An officer with a K9 attempted a track to locate potential suspects; however, none were located.

Investigators located a vehicle that had damage from the gunshots. A home was also hit.

They also said neighbors are fearful.

The incident remains under investigation by Bristol police’s Patrol Division as well as the Criminal Investigation Division.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Bristol police at 860-584-3011.
