WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) -

A Connecticut girl is getting the chance to meet the First Lady after winning a national cooking contest.

"I was screaming and yelling and I ran around the house,” 10-year-old Kalaya Moore said.

That was Windsor girl's reaction to learning she will dine with the First Lady Michelle Obama at her home this Thursday.

Kalaya is one of 56 young chefs, who won Obama's Healthy Lunchtime Challenge.

"Comes from my grandma because she likes to cook and then my mom likes to cook too but not as much as my grandma,” Kalaya said as she cooked in her kitchen on Monday.

She moves around as if she has been cooking for years.

“She's developing her skills and she's really paying attention a little bit more,” Kalaya’s mother Beverly Moody said. “It kind of calms her down and makes her focused and really think things through."

Moody's determination has earned her a tremendous opportunity. This week the sixth-grader heads to Washington, D.C. to meet the First Lady and share her winning brunch, which includes a healthy twist on French toast, a smoothie and eggs.

“It has cilantro, bean sprouts, chicken and carrots,” Kalaya said.
