3rd person arrested for theft of AR-15 out of police cruiser

The third person was arrested in connection with the theft of AR-15 rifle along with other items out of a Connecticut State Police cruiser in March. 

The car break-in took place at the trooper's home in Milford during the early morning hours on March 8. Police said AR-15 rifle with two fully loaded 30 round magazines and a department-issued bullet proof vest. 

After a search of the area, the suspects were not located by police. The Connecticut State Police- Central District Major Crime Squad took over the investigation. 

On Wednesday, police arrested 19-year-old James Lee, of New Haven, at New Haven Superior Court. Lee, who was being arraigned on unrelated charges, faces several charges in connection with the AR-15 theft.

On July 6, police previously arrested 20-year-old Travis Ingram and 18-year-old Leanadre Crockett, of New Haven in connection with the theft. 

State police said Ingram broke into a number of other vehicles as well. 

The stolen state police items were eventually recovered the AR-15 rifle with two fully loaded 30 round magazines and the department-issued bullet proof vest. 

Lee faces the following charges: 

  • Third-degree Larceny (four counts)
  • Third-degree Conspiracy to Commit Larceny (four counts)
  • Stealing a Firearm
  • Conspiracy to Steal a Firearm
  • Possession of an Assault Weapon
  • Conspiracy to Possess an Assault Weapon
  • Transportation & Transfer of an Assault Weapon
  • Conspiracy to Transport & Transfer an Assault Weapon
  • Large Capacity Magazines: Sale, Transfer or Possession (two counts)
  • Conspiracy to Sell, Transfer or Possess Large Capacity Magazines (two counts)
  • Firearms Trafficking
  • Conspiracy to Traffic Firearms

Lee will be arraigned on these charges at New Haven Superior Court on Wednesday and Thursday on the two warrants. 

Police said they are expecting to make another arrest in the case.
