CLEVELAND (WFSB) -

He's been advertising it since last week; however, it looked as if the gig was over before the main event even began.

Stephen Colbert, host of the Late Show, hijacked the stage at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland over the weekend.

Donning his infamous "hungry for power games" sketch costume, he spoke about how Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump formed an alliance with Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

"So it is my honor to launch and begin the 2016 national hungry for power games!" Colbert yelled has he slammed a gavel on the podium.

It was at that point, he appeared to have been quickly ushered off the stage by security.

"I know I'm not supposed to be here, but let's be honest," Colbert said. "Neither is Donald Trump."

The purpose of the stunt has yet to be revealed.

Colbert teased all last week that the Late Show would broadcast live from the RNC.

His next show airs Monday night after Eyewitness News at 11.
