Fire at abandoned building in Vernon ruled 'suspicious'

VERNON, CT (WFSB) -

Police are investigating a suspicious fire at an abandoned building in Vernon late Sunday night. 

The fire was reported at a commercial building at 96 West St. around 11:15 p.m. 

After firefighters extinguished the fire, it caused "substantial interior damage."

Investigators said the "fire remains suspicious" and is under investigation by the Vernon Fire Marshal’s Office, the Connecticut State Police Office of State Fire Marshal and the Vernon Police Detective Division.

The Connecticut Arson Tip Award Program is offering a $2,500 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. People can call 1-800-84arson. 

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Vernon Police Department at 860-872-9126.
