A passenger is accused of firing a gun outside the window of a vehicle on Interstate 84 in East Hartford.
Giovanni Omar Rodriguez, 20, faces a list of charges.
State police said the incident reportedly happened on the westbound side of the highway near exit 58 just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Troopers said they saw the vehicle just before exit 48.
They and Hartford police conducted a stop when the driver took the exit 47 off ramp onto Farmington Avenue in Hartford.
Troopers searched the vehicle said said they found a .45 caliber Springfield Armory XDS handgun. which was reported stolen on Monday. They said they also found a plastic bag containing an ounce of suspected marijuana.
Rodriguez was arrested a short time later.
State police charged him with first-degree reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, stealing a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, risk of injury to a child, having a weapon in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit and possession of a controlled substance.
Rodriguez was unable to post bond and was held at the Hartford Correctional Center until his court date on Wednesday in Manchester.
