NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -

New Britain police arrested former Slade Middle School teacher who is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Police arrested 33-year-old Kelsey Cabral and charged him with risk of injury to children by sexual contact, fourth-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to children by impairing morals, tampering with a witness, and criminal attempt to tamper with evidence.

Cabral’s arrest stems from an investigation that began in May, when administrators contacted police reporting that Cabral may have been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student at New Britain High School.

He was reportedly a math teacher at Slade Middle School.

Administrators were notified by an uninvolved third party juvenile.

Police said Cabral was placed on administrative leave.

It is unclear if any other students were involved.

Cabral was placed on a $350,000 bond.

On Wednesday, New Britain Superintendent Nancy Sarra released a statement that said, in part "During our internal investigation, we reached out to the student and her family to provide any ongoing support that they may need. The truth along with the safety of our children are our top priorities within the Consolidated School District of New Britain. While Mr. Cabral was on administrative leave, he submitted his resignation and as such, is no longer an employee of the Consolidated School District of New Britain."
