A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a gas station in Middletown early Friday morning.
A man, who later be identified as Middletown resident Tyrell Lockhart, entered the Gasman Mini Market, which is located at 28 Broad St., around 9:45 p.m.
Police said Lockhart "displayed a handgun and stole cigarettes from the store before fleeing."
After the armed robbery, officers canvassed the surrounding area where they located Lockhart "looking around nervously and attempting to remove a shirt." Police said he ran from the officer and into a "rooming house," located at 139 Church St.
After police secured the perimeter, Lockhart "walked out of the apartment building" and was arrested for the armed robbery. The SWAT team was called to the scene and helped "ensure the residents were safe from any further unknown suspects." No other suspects were located by police and no injuries were reported to officers.
Police said the gas station's security video showed Lockhart "wearing a black mask, waiving a hand gun around in an aggressive manner." Also, during the incident, Lockhart jumped over the counter, knocked over a display rack and took several packs of cigarettes.
In the apartment Lockhart was found in, police said they found a gun, which was determined to be a B.B. gun.
Lockhart is being held on a $500,000 bond. He is expected to be arraigned in Middletown Superior Court on Friday.
