A 20-year-old man was arrested on Saturday, accused of assaulting a Danbury police officer.

Police said Pierre Elhayek was seen pacing up and down Germantown Road on Saturday night.

A police officer was parked in a lot when Elhayek walked up to the cruiser and began banging on and kicking the car.

The officer got out of the car, thinking that Elhayek was trying to get his attention, but Elhayek then attacked the officer, hitting him on the side of the head and ear.

Police said Elhayek punched and kicked the officer in the head and body numerous times.

The officer lost his stun gun during the struggle and was unable to get to his portable radio.

He was finally able to get back inside the cruiser and then call for help.

Several officers arrived and took Elhayek into custody.

He was charged with second-degree assault, assault on a police officer, interfering with police, breach of peace and first-degree criminal mischief.

He was held on a $250,000 bond.

The officer was treated and released from Danbury Hospital.
