Police were able to peacefully resolve a situation in Torrington where a "despondent" man held himself up in a building, which caused authorities to close streets and have people shelter in place.
Police said an man was "held up" in a building in the area of Rite Aid on East Main Street around 12:30 p.m. Police said the situation was "contained" and added there was "no danger to the public."
People on East Main Street between Maud and Wall streets were asked to shelter in place until the incident was resolved. East Main Street was also closed from Maud and Wall streets and people were advised to avoid the area during the police incident.
The incident was resolved around 3:30 p.m. A man was seen being removed from a home in handcuffs and then, taken away on a stretcher.
