Three state beaches were off limits to swimmers on Tuesday.
The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said that Day Pond State Park's beach in Colchester and Wharton Brook State Park beach in Wallingford are closed. Silver Sands Beach swimming area was also dded to the closure list on Tuesday afternoon.
DEEP announced the closures in its weekly area water quality report.
The report said water at the two beaches tested positive for the presence of certain indicator bacteria.
DEEP said indicator bacteria are not disease-carrying pathogens. However, they're one of the tools used by public health and environmental protection authorities to evaluate the potential for contamination of water bodies.
Spokesperson Dennis Schain said the water was being retested on Tuesday with the results expected on Wednesday.
DEEP said the parks themselves remain open.
