A man from Sharon was killed in an overnight crash in Salisbury, according to state police.

Troopers said Robert Chatfield Sr., 64, crashed into a tree on Route 112 near the road's intersection with Salmon Kill Road.

They said it happened just after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Chatfield was traveling eastbound when he collided with the tree.

Troopers said the weather conditions were clear and the road was dry. However, they said there was no artificial lighting and the area was dark.

They're not sure what caused him to leave the roadway.

Chatfield was found in the driver's side of the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
