HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

After a round of storms moved through the state Tuesday afternoon, some more thunderstorms pushed in during the evening hours.

At about 8:30 p.m., storms were moving into the southwestern part of Connecticut, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, thunder and lightning.

"With the setting sun and stabilization of the atmosphere, the storms should continue weakening – so severe weather is not expected," Meteorologist Mark Dixon said.

By 11 p.m., the patch of storms were moving out of the state, but more are expected overnight.

Gusty winds and heavy downpours posed a threat with the storms on Tuesday, and the Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma placed Connecticut in a "slight risk" category for severe weather.

As a result, Tuesday was declared an Early Warning Weather Day. The Early Warning Weather Day ended Tuesday night.

The next round of rain will push through overnight, as a cold front moves through the region. These storms aren't posing a serious threat to the state.

Wednesday will feature a warm and muggy start, but the humidity will drop as the day goes on and drier air will filter into the state.

"Under a mix of sun and clouds, temperatures during the afternoon will reach the mid to upper 80s (by then dew point values will have dropped into the 60s)," Dixon said.
