KENT, CT (WFSB) -

Environmental officials announced on Wednesday the closure of two swimming areas.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said water at Lake Waramaug State Park in Kent and Squantz Pond in New Fairfield are off limits to swimmers.

DEEP said weekly samples tested positive for indicator bacteria.

It said indicator bacteria are not disease-causing pathogens; however, they are one of the tools used by DEEP to evaluate the potential for the contamination of water bodies.

The rest of the parks remain open.
