A driving under the influence and texting-while-driving arrest was made following a crash in Southington Wednesday night.

Traci Creem, 45, of Meriden, took her eyes off the road to read a text message, according to police.

It happened around 9 p.m. on the Meriden Waterbury Turnpike at Canal Street, they said.

The crash involved three vehicles.

Creem rear-ended  a vehicle, which in turn struck the third vehicle while at a traffic signal, police said.

She told police that she looked away briefly to read the text. As they continued their investigation, they said they learned that she was under the influence.

No one was seriously hurt, but the road was closed for about an hour for the cleanup. It reopened around 10 p.m.

Creem was issued a misdemeanor summons and charged with DUI, following too close, use of a hand-held mobile device while driving and distracted driving.

She was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to face a judge in Bristol on Aug. 29.
