A Bolton woman died after being pulled from Bolton Lake on Saturday evening.
Virginia Bergstrom, 89, was found "unresponsive" in Bolton Lake, which was near her home, around 5:45 p.m.
Bystanders on the shore on Bolton Lake told Eyewitness News that they watched a woman, who was later identified as Bergstrom, enter the lake and not resurface for air.
Bolton resident Jared Basilio said Bergstrom was calling for help. When he arrived to the edge of the lake, he said he realized quickly that he had to take action and jumped into the water.
Basilio was able to get Bergstrom ashore with the help of a nearby party boat. Once ashore, Basilio’s wife, Lorielle Basilio, said she called 911 immediately.
Police said "lifesaving efforts were made at the scene" before Bergstrom was rushed to Manchester Hospital. Police said she died a short time later.
Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection officers were called to the scene and took over the investigation.
